The Monhegan Artists' Residency program provides
an apartment and a separate studio for the residents.
The apartment is in the Hitchcock House on Horn
Hill in the addition to a house that Rockwell
Kent originally built for a family friend. It
is quiet and private and provides a beautiful
view across the meadow to the harbor and the
lighthouse. The fully furnished apartment will
comfortably serve the needs of one person. It
has a living room with fully equipped kitchen
area, a bedroom with a double bed, and a full
bath with shower. It also has a large deck, with
access to a grill for outdoor cooking. Dishes,
cooking utensils, towels, and linens are all
provided.

The studio is large and airy, right
in the center of town. It is the first floor
of the 1825 Black Duck fish house among the cluster
of buildings that make up Fish Beach , just a
minute's walk from the harbor. It is the heart
of Monhegan's working world. The space has been
nicely renovated and is light and pleasant.
The studio is equipped with basic
art making furnishings, such as an easel, a worktable
and chairs, and shelving. The studio is not equipped
for large-scale sculpture techniques like welding.
Because of the size of the apartment and because
the residency program is designed to provide
a brief respite from the day-to-day cares of
family and work, no guests (including family
members) are allowed to stay at Hitchcock House
apartment during the residency.
