Gary Ambrose/Artist's
Statement
I continue to spend hours hiking, climbing, and sailing
to offshore islands, in pursuit of form and materials.
The ultimate choice to pick something to return with requires
a bonding... a feeling of import that is not cognitive
and understood but intuitive and mysterious. I then bring
the piece back to the studio and begin drawing, shaping,
and juxtaposing in order to discover my relationship to
that piece. The completed work is always a surprise, and
fully connected to all that I have touched and perceived.
I see these works as quiet, intense, distilled, and demanding.
